FINANCE INTERN 

Role Purpose

  • The British Council would like to offer students / graduates an experiential learning opportunity to gain real world experience through an internship programme.
  • The practical experience an intern gains is expected to complement the theoretical knowledge he/she has gained during their studies.
  • The intern is expected to both learn from and contribute to the workplace during the internship period, in turn providing an opportunity to increase employability skills.
  • An outcome being that students and graduates are more employable and successful because of the skills they acquire.

Role Description 

  • The Finance team is looking to engage interns to support the financial control team in carrying out basic tasks that will support them in gaining field experience and learn essential industry skills.
  • The intern will have the opportunity to put to practice their accounting knowledge and skills in a professional setting as they gain more experience to further their career in the field.

Location: Lagos

Job Type: Contract

Duration: 1year

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Senior Financial Accountant (SFA), the duties will include but not limited to:

  • Finance administrative support
  • Support AP and AR accountant
  • Support in filling monthly tax returns with relevant tax authorities
  • Prepare financial documents and journal entries for accuracy.
  • All other tasks as may be assigned by the SFA.

Learning and development opportunities for the intern

  • The intern will have an opportunity to gain hands-on accounting experience and learn about the various aspects of the accounting function in a multinational organisation.
  • Develop a whole new set of cross-disciplinary skills for your future career.
  • Becoming familiar with working in an International Organization and in a multicultural environment

Profile of Intern

Essential:The ideal candidate should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication.
  • The ability to be discreet when handling sensitive financial information.
  • A willingness to learn.
  • Be detail-oriented
  • Be analytical skills
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Desirable:Experience in development of statistics, charts in Excel

Management and Support for the role

  • The intern will report to the Senior Financial Accountant based in Lagos, and will be expected to work closely with other members of the Finance team.

BUSINESS SUPPORT SERVICES INTERN

Role Description 

  • The Business Support Service (BSS) Unit delivers and supports the strategy and operations of the British Council through effective and efficient planning and Management of all support operations.
  • The team delivers and supports the operations of the British Council through effective and efficient planning and management of all its resources in Abuja, Lagos, Kano, and Port Harcourt operations.
  • The intern will have the opportunity to put to practice their knowledge and skills in a workplace as they gain more experience to further their career in Facilities Management.

Location: Kano

Job Type: Contract

Duration: 1year

Duties and Responsibilities

With the support of the Facilities Manager (Kano and Abuja) the intern duties will include

Provide support to the security team:

  • This is by supporting the implementation of security measures and protocols.
  • Team collaboration to develop and refine security procedures.
  • Assisting in monitoring and analysis of security event logs.

Provide support to the administrative team by:

  • Providing support with day-to-day office operations.
  • Helping with managing events.
  • Preparing and editing documents, reports, and presentations.

Provide support to the Facilities Team with Premises and Logistics Management

Role specific knowledge and experience

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Be computer literate with proficiency in the use of MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Have an interest in Facilities management.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

FACILITIES INTERN 

Role Description 

  • The Facilities team delivers and supports the operations of the British Council through effective and efficient planning and management of all its facilities/resources and fleet.
  • The team is responsible for the core facilities day to day responsibilities for the Abuja, Lagos, Kano, and Port Harcourt offices.
  • The intern will have the opportunity to put to practice their knowledge and skills in a workplace as they gain more experience to further their career in Facilities Management.

Location: Port Harcourt

Duration: 1year

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the pro-active maintenance management of Port Harcourt Office and compound, undertaking daily checks on facilities and equipment to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Maintain the office and estate by ensuring security and optimum delivery of customer care services in Facilities Unit.
  • Responsible for day-to-day coordination of all facilities services and project activities for the Facilities team, ensuring relevant and necessary report to the Facilities Manager
  • Assist Facilities Team in-country to manage the Port Harcourt facilities/estate effectively and efficiently as defined in the Regional and Country Delivery Plans enabling delivery of all key sectors of the British Council Programme.
  • Where appropriate, assists the Facilities Team with the coordination of other facilities and building improvement activities and liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders and staff to ensure effective conclusion.
  • And any other tasks as directed by relevant team leads.

Logistics Management

  • Provides logistic supports to visitors coming to Port Harcourt
  • Effective planning and management of vehicles and drivers to ensure optimum transport support for British Council operations.
