Named for University Regent Al Self and his wife, Lila, the M. A. and Lila Self Leadership Academy Scholarship is a distinguished and prestigious award given to the top applicants to the university that demonstrate exceptional leadership potential.

The Selfs provided the founding gift to the Leadership Academy in 2000, and it allows the Leadership Academy to provide up to four incoming first-year students with scholarships.

The Leadership Academy is composed of 30 undergraduates and is led by Executive Director George M. Langlois and Program Manager Alexandra.

In addition to funding 30 undergraduates, the academy is an educational initiative aimed at developing the leadership potential of all Illinois Tech students.

Requirements for Illinois Tech Leadership Academy Scholarship 2025
- This applies only to full-time undergraduate students at Illinois Tech.
- Satisfactory academic progress (defined in the Illinois Tech Student Handbook as a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 in each semester) is required.
- Annual renewal of the scholarship is contingent upon satisfactory academic progress and attendance at all Leadership Academy-sponsored programs, including but not limited to Saturday leadership seminars, regular scholar meetings, and sophomore leadership retreats.
- Scholars are required to actively participate in a committee of their choosing to support the development of the Leadership Academy program.
- Scholars are required to contribute 10 hours of service per semester to community service projects that are officially sponsored by the Leadership Academy.
- All scholars must also adhere to university-wide codes of conduct; students who are accused and found guilty of conduct not in keeping with the code of conduct are subject to dismissal from the academy.

- Your interview is an experiential one: Leadership Academy staff will contact you to schedule your Leadership Experience for Assessment and Development (LEAD) appointment, which is a four-hour assessment center simulation.
- Center for Research and Service staff will provide all participants with an individual feedback report from their LEAD session
- Students chosen as finalists from the assessment center will then interview in person with the Leadership Academy staff at the Leadership Symposium in February.

Required Documents for the Beijing Normal University Scholarship 2025
To apply for the Beijing Normal University Scholarship, candidates must be ready to submit the following documents;

Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English)

Copy of Passport Home Page.

Notarized highest diploma.

Academic transcripts (from the undergraduate program onwards).

Copies of academic records from first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) shall be provided.

Language qualification certificates.

Pre-admission documents.

Pre-admission documents issued by the Chinese university of preference, including an official admission letter, a pre-admission letter, or an invitation letter from a prospective supervisor recognized by the department of international students admission at Chinese universities.

The enrollment letter or invitation letter shall contain the following information (in Chinese or English)

Applicant information: full name, nationality, date of birth, name of the university last attended, and others.

Academic status in China: graduate student or doctoral student.

Projected time of staying in China. The study timeline shall be made clear.

Information of the applicant’s Chinese supervisor (if any)

Descriptions of the applicant’s studies or research in China

Language taught in courses (Chinese or English)

The supervisor-issued invitation letter shall be sealed by the department of international students admission and accompanied by the signature and contact information of the head of the department.

A study plan proposal.

A study plan written in Chinese or English shall contain more than 1,000 characters or words; the proposal of a doctoral student shall be signed by the applicant’s Chinese supervisor.

Two letters of recommendation (written only in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors shall be submitted.

Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China.

A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy shall be kept by the applicant).

Non-criminal record report.

US Government YES Scholarship 2025 (Youth Exchange and Study) | Fully Funded

The United States Government YES Scholarship is for students from countries with significant Muslim populations to live and study for an academic year in the United States.

Through the U.S. Department of State’s Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program, high school students from countries with significant Muslim populations live and study for an academic year in the United States.

YES students serve as “youth ambassadors” of their home country, promoting mutual understanding by forming lasting relationships with their host families and communities.

Participants live with a host family, attend an American high school, acquire leadership skills, and engage in activities to learn about U.S. society and values; they also help educate Americans about their home country and culture.

The program officially launched in Nigeria in 2003 in hopes to expand communication between the people of the United States and Nigeria in order to promote mutual understanding and respect. Since then, over 402 Nigerian students have completed the YES program and now participate as alumni.

The U.S. Department of State’s Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program will cover the full participation costs of selected applicants for this opportunity including visa, flights, accommodation, monthly stipends, and the costs of training materials.

US Government YES Scholarship 2025 Requirements
To be considered for the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Program, you must:

Be between the ages of 15-18 by the start of program (August 15, 2025).

Must be enrolled in a secondary school in Adamawa, Bauchi, Katsina, or Taraba states.

Must have completed JSS3 class by August 2025.

Have the equivalent of a B average or better without failing grades.

Not have spent a total of more than 90 days in the U.S. in the last five years.

Meet U.S. J-1 visa eligibility requirements (for instance, U.S. citizens are not eligible for J-1 visa).

Be a resident and citizen of Nigeria.

Application Guidelines for the US Government YES Scholarship 2025

The following steps are required to be successfully considered for the United States Government YES Scholarship program;
- There are multiple rounds to the YES selection process, the first of which is a pre-selection exam.
- The pre-selection exam, a Math and English test, serves as a screening tool as only candidates who score well on the test are invited to fill out the official YES application.
- For the 2025-2026 program year, the pre-selection exam will take place in November and we will be recruiting finalists and alternates in Gombe, Katsina, Kebbi, and Taraba states.
- Students who are interested in taking the pre-selection exam and who meet the eligibility requirements listed above should email IRIS Country Director, Dr. Saidu Yakubu at: [email protected] for specific dates and testing sites.
- All YES finalists complete a YES program application, take an English proficiency exam, write a proctored essay, and participate in a group activity and individual in-person interviews.
