  • LEAP Africa Youth Leadership Development Program 2023 for young change leaders.

    The LEAP Africa Youth Leadership Development Programme is designed to empower, equip, and support young change leaders who are Nigerian undergraduates under the age of 30, by providing them with the knowledge, abilities, and supportive environment needed for them to become self-leaders who bring long-lasting change to their communities.

    The Youth Leadership Programme has never been more pertinent to the present problems being experienced in Africa today, especially those bordering on leadership, active citizenship, and sustainable development, as the country approaches an election year.

    Through the Youth Leadership Programme, youth leadership and activism in Nigeria will be strengthened and enabled through outcomes-driven policy engagements and inclusive resourcing that help youth shape the country’s future long-term development plans.

    Eligibility Requirements

    To successfully apply for the LEAP Africa YLDP, an applicant should possess the following qualities:

    • A Male or Female Undergraduate in a Tertiary/Vocational Institution in Nigeria.
    • Aged 18 – 30 years
    • Passionate about advocacy, activism and community development
    • Interested in inclusion, diversity and civic responsibility and eager to exercise these interests
    • Eager to champion change projects geared towards community development & the SDGs
    • Eager to engage with government institutions and influence policy
    • Committed to attending the Online Training, Debates and is available for mentoring

    Program Components


    Virtual Training on our Learning Management System (LMS)

    Participants are onboarded onto the LMS to gain access to the modules. The modules are developed under the three pillars of the Youth Leadership Programme; Leadership, Active Citizenship, and Sustainable/Community Development. Participants have 5 weeks to complete the modules.

    Virtual Community of Practice

    Participants are incorporated into a virtual community of practice, an online community where learning materials, programme updates, and other opportunities for development are exchanged. Collaboration and information exchange are promoted here .

    Change Project Pitching Sessions, Mentorship, and Implementation

    The participants will be encouraged to form teams of 3-5 persons who will pitch their proposals for community change projects that tackle social issues. 100 successful teams will be selected to receive funding/subgrants and will also be paired with mentors to further aid their development and influence the excellent implementation of their projects.

    Leadership Debates

    Participants who choose to take part in the debates will also be asked to form teams and submit video entries for the debate competition. The competition will take place in 5 rounds which are:  Elimination round 1&2, quarter finals, semi-finals and finals. To further prepare them for the competition, participants will be taught policy accelerator courses by expert professionals, and the goal of this is to build their debating skills and boost their  knowledge of civic participation.

    Youth Leadership Conference

    The Youth Leadership Programme will conclude with a physical Debate National Finale and Awards Ceremony. This will be an opportunity to reward participants/teams and institutions for their work over the course of five months.

    Courses

    The Youth Leadership Development Programme comprises 22 modules centered on the three pillars of the programme which are Leadership, Active citizenship and Sustainable/Community development. The modules have been carefully designed and tailored to address the current realities of young people in Nigeria to fix the gaps in leadership, active citizenship and sustainable/community development. The modules will help equip the participants with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to become true change makers that lead community change and influence policy change.

    FATE Foundation in partnership with Google.org has launched the Business Resilience Programme (BRP) for Women Entrepreneurs for 2023. This program is funded under the Google.org “SSA Women Entrepreneurship Programme’’ and is part of a continent-wide program running across Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa aimed at improving the digital and financial capability of female nano and micro business entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 55 years.

    The program will provide beneficiaries with required fundamental financial literacy and business management knowledge; digital literacy skills; growth support (including business registration, network, and community building); and micro-grant financing to underserved female-led businesses in Nigeria.

    Curriculum

    The curriculum will cover teaching female entrepreneurs in Nigeria the following:

    • Confidence Building

    Target Beneficiaries

    • Female entrepreneurs who run nano (less than 3 employees) and micro (between 4 to 9 employees) businesses in Nigeria.

    • Special consideration will be given to women who are breadwinners, widows, and single parents.

  • Call for Proposals: Bloomberg Initiative Grant Program 2023 – Round 22

    The Road Safety Grants Programme has supported organizations advocating for the adoption and implementation of evidence-based policies to protect road users since 2012 and improve vehicle safety standards since 2017. The grants programme is supported by the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety.

    Bloomberg Philanthropies funds the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries in low- and middle-income countries. A competitively awarded grants programme is an important part of the initiative. The Road Safety Grants Programme is managed by the Global Road Safety Partnership, one of the implementing partners of BIGRS, and supports projects to develop and deliver high-impact, evidence-based road safety interventions designed to strengthen road safety policies and their implementation.

    Eligibility:

    The Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety focuses on improving and implementing evidence-based road safety policies (including laws, regulations, and standards) in a number of low- and middle-income countries. A number of evidence-based interventions aimed at reducing road traffic deaths and injuries are included in BIGRS.

    The Road Safety Grants Programme focuses exclusively on the passage and implementation of evidence-based policies which address key behavioural risk factors (speeding, drink driving, lack of seatbelt use, lack of child restraint use, or lack of helmet use) and vehicle safety standards.

    Countries

    • Applications addressing national level road safety policy reform and/or its implementation with comprehensive provisions on road user behavioural risk factors will be accepted from Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Uganda, Ukraine and Vietnam.
    • Applications addressing national level vehicle safety regulations reform and/or vehicle safety regulations implementation will only be accepted from Mexico.
    • Given the prevailing situation in Ukraine, the process and timeline for grant selection and finalization may be adjusted as needed.

    Funding
    • Proposals can be submitted for grants up to a maximum amount of 120,000 Swiss francs (CHF) for a project of no more than 24 months. However, the final amount of funding will depend on a number of factors, including consideration of a proposed scope of work vis-a-vis capacity of your organization.
    Application Process

    • Organizations from eligible countries are invited to submit concept notes using our online system at https://grsp.flexigrant.com/. Deadline for submission of concept notes is 13 February 2023, at 14:00 Central European Time (CET), (To see what time that is in your country please check www.timeanddate.com).
    • Applicant organizations may submit more than one concept note. However, duplicate proposals will be deemed ineligible.
    • An international panel of experts and members of an advisory working group will review concept notes. They will be scored on their potential to reduce road traffic fatalities and injuries, project design, and applicant organization capacity.
    • Progression to full proposal is by invitation only. You will be informed if your concept note has been selected for advancement by 15 March 2023.

    Komla Dumor was a BBC News journalist whose passion was to tell African stories to the world with honesty and integrity. It’s a legacy that the BBC wants to continue. The BBC News Komla Dumor Award will be made to an outstanding individual living and working in Africa, who combines strong journalism skills, on air flair, and an exceptional talent in telling African stories with the ambition and potential to become a star of the future.

    Requirements

    To apply for this prestigious award, you must be currently living and working as a journalist in Africa.

    You must also have the following skills and experience:

    • Excellent journalism skills, including in digital and social media.
    • Broadcasting experience is preferable.
    • An excellent broadcasting voice and strong presenting skills with the ability to perform at the microphone with flair.

    Role Responsibility

    • Working with teams from across BBC News, the winner will produce an African story for the BBC and have their story and their voice shared across the continent and the world.
    • They will be supported by a high-level BBC mentor and attend courses run by the BBC’s world-class training department, the BBC Academy.

  • BRAVE Women Grant for Female Entrepreneurs, Lead Firms and Business Associations (Receive between $5000 – $50,000)

    BRAVE Women Nigeria in partnership with Wema Bank invites Female Entrepreneurs, Lead Firms and Business Associations to apply for its grant programme.

    Under the this BRAVE project, female entrepreneurs can access from $5000 – $15000 grant, while women associations can access up to $50,000 (naira equivalent) as matching grant to finance asset (for businesses in Lagos and Abuja only)

    Women Entrepreneurs

    Available Grant: $5,000 – $15,000

    Eligibility Criteria 

    • Must be located in any of the project states (Lagos and Abuja)
    • Women-owned SMEs are those SMEs in which women own 51% or more shareholding in the enterprise.
    • For Women-led SMEs, women must own at least 20% of the shares.
    • The enterprise must also have at least one woman in top management positions (COO/CEO/President/Vice President) or 30% women membership in the Board of Directors (where the board exists).
    • The SMEs must be active in the business sectors of agri-business, education, health, textile/garments and energy
    • Must have between 2 and 100 staff.
    • Must not be involved in providing financial services and charging interest (like conventional banks, and insurance companies) or involved in any other business not approved under the Shari’ah (including the manufacturing, selling or offering of liquors, pork, haram meat, or involvement in gambling, night club activities or pornography.
    • Registered enterprises (business name, partnership or limited liability company) are preferred, but if you are in the process of registering with CAC and have evidence of business operations for the past 12 months, you can still register and submit your application.

    Lead Firms in Nigeria

    Available Grant: $40,000 – $50,000

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Lead firms are large companies with commercial relationships with at least 20 Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises MSMEs.
    • They buy finished products or semi-processed products from the MSMEs and are active in the business sectors of agri-business, education, health, textile/garments and energy.
    • They can be located in any part of Nigeria, but must have dealings with MSMEs in at least one of the project states of Lagos and Abuja.
    • The lead firm must also have commercial business with at least two major actors in its business sector value chain.

    Business Associations & Cooperatives

    Available Grant: $40,000 – $50,000

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Business Associations must have many active members and provide services to them in the business sectors of agri-business, education, health, textile/garments and energy.
    • The business associations must provide trainings, market expansions, cost saving innovations services etc. to members and represent their interests at state and national levels.

    Applications are now open for the Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship 2023. Here’s how to apply:

    Kaduna State Government introduced its inaugural class of the Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship (KIF) in August, 2018 with 16 Fellows from all over Nigeria participating in the one-year Programme.

    The Fellowship’s objective is to develop and nurture leadership ability across Nigeria, with specific focus on promising leaders of the future.
    This one-year Fellowship aims to create a network of high potential young Nigerians who are expected to rise to top leadership positions in the public sector and other spheres of activity over the next decade.
    The overall mission of the non-partisan Programme, as envisioned by Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, is in his words, “to raise the next generation of leaders who will most likely be absorbed into the Nigerian public sector having had a first-hand experience of its workings and challenges”.

    Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship comprises of four components, namely:

     

    1. Work Placement
    Engagement in the work of Kaduna State Government lies at the heart of the Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship. Work assignments offer unparalleled experience, working with senior administration officials on ever changing issues and challenges.
    Fellows will spend a year as full-time, paid Assistants to senior Government House staff, Cabinet Members and other top-ranking government officials in State Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
    a. Job Assignments: Fellows’ responsibilities would range from supporting public service delivery, inter-agency meetings, designing and implementing state government policies, to drafting speeches for government principals to representing their agencies outside Kaduna State. Fellows’ assignments demand a capacity for quick learning and a willingness to work hard, often on issues outside of their area of expertise.
    b. Remuneration: Fellows will receive a monthly salary equivalent to that of a Special Assistant to the Governor. Kashim Ibrahim Fellows CANNOT receive compensation from any other source during their year of government service.
    2. Education Programme
    The mandatory Education Programme serves as an important aspect of the Fellowship as it is intended to augment and enhance the workplace experience. Fellows are expected to fully undertake the Education Programme which would include:
    • Local Government Area tours.
    • Brown Bag Meetings.
    • Speaker Series
    • Domestic trips
    • An international policy trip
    • Workshops and
    • Aspen Institute styled quarterly seminars.
    During this process, a balance is maintained between personal development, self-reflection, and the Nigerian context of leadership. The values and ethics of leadership also form a major component of the learning experience.
    The Speaker Series under the Education Programme increase Fellows’ exposure to renowned leaders from the public and private sectors. Each class will meet with notable global individuals who will improve and enrich their understanding and experience of public service.
    Kashim Ibrahim Fellows are expected to study a range of issues such as education, healthcare, security and transportation, energy, economic development, local governance, and urbanisation. These studies provide participants with an intensive learning and broadening experience on the principles and application of leadership, and an opportunity to explore the issues and specific characteristics of African leadership, as well as the global challenges and dimensions of same.
    3. Community Service
    Community service is a key component of the Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship. Fellows have a strong legacy of service to their communities and participate in community service projects throughout their year in Kaduna Metropolis. Fellows will be expected to pursue projects to assist the urban poor, volunteer teaching, mentor students, or participate in the clean-up of local communities etc.
    4. Fellowship
    Perhaps the most enriching component of the Programme is class fellowship, which often results in enduring friendships and collaborative ventures. Alumni will convene at yearly meetings in Kaduna hosted by the Governor, to eagerly welcome new Fellows into what we hope would be one of the most prestigious networks of professionals and leaders in the State and our nation.
    In return for the privilege of participating in the Fellowship year, Fellows are expected to apply what they have learned by contributing to Kaduna State and Nigeria as greater leaders in their respective communities, professions, and in public service. Fellows are expected to return to their former or new occupations more experienced in governance, public policy, decision-making and better prepared to contribute to state and national affairs, thereby fulfilling the mission of the Fellowship.
    5. Eligibility
    To be eligible as a 2023/2024 Kashim Ibrahim Fellow, applicants MUST:
    Demonstrate some level of public interest orientation.
    Selection Criteria Include:

     

    Diversity: The Fellowship will admit Fellows representing diverse gender, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, with varied educational qualifications; working from all angles and with different perspectives to strengthen their communities and civic life.
    An established record of self-discipline, punctuality, dedication, respect, hard work, confidentiality, and integrity as Fellows MUST embody the change they wish to see in the society.
    Commitment to engaging in crucial issues and to making a difference at the State and national level.
    Promise of a future career of leadership and notable impact.
    Special capacity for critical, creative, entrepreneurial, and strategic thinking.
    Ability to efficiently work as part of a team.
    Commitment to FULL participation in a rigorous programme of activities and to full-time residence in the Fellows Lodge in Kaduna for the ENTIRE duration of the Fellowship.
    Total participation in all Fellowship components (which makes for a very intensive programme) is COMPULSORY and a prerequisite for graduation.
    24 admissions are available for individuals who are working to solve important public problems in creative and powerful ways.
    Proficiency in English: Fellows must be fluent in spoken and written English as all programmes will be conducted in English.
    Applicants must be Nigerian citizens between 25 to 35 years of age WITH A MINIMUM AGE OF 25 years WHEN THE FELLOWSHIP COMMENCES IN AUGUST 2023 AND A MAXIMUM AGE OF 35 years WHEN THE FELLOWSHIP ENDS IN JULY 2024.
    Applicants must have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate degree programme from a recognised University and completed the mandatory National Youth Service Corp programme with relevant certification.
    The most important criterion is to have a real commitment to put your new leadership skills into use to benefit your community, State and Nigeria upon the successful completion of the Fellowship.
    Application Process Overview
    Do note that application for admission into the Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship is entirely an online process. There are no paper forms to complete or mail.

    Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship 2023/2024 Application Process
    Applicants are required to submit a Résumé/Curriculum Vitae (maximum of 3 pages), an Essay (minimum of 800 words and maximum of 1000 words), and a Personal Statement.
    The essay topic is “Mass Migration of Nigerians: Addressing the Japa Syndrome”. Please prepare a paper in your capacity as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that states the effect of mass migration of citizens on the economy and the role of government in mitigating this challenge.
    An important part of the application is the Personal Statement (maximum of 200 words) where you have the opportunity to demonstrate your leadership skills and public service orientation, stating what you have accomplished and what your goals are for the future as we want to see people who have had a track record of imbibing change and are looking forward to making change.

    • Do note that the recommended font style, font size, and line spacing for the essay and personal statement are Century Gothic Normal, 12 and 1.5 respectively.
    •  Applicants are also expected to use well defined paragraphs for ease of review.

    Compensation Package for Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship 2023/2024
    • A salary equivalent to that of Special Assistant to the Governor.
    • Accommodation: Boarding (and breakfast) in a nicely furnished one-bedroom apartment for the duration of the Fellowship.

    • There is no fee to apply nor to participate in the programme as the programme is fully sponsored. They do not take any equity. Selection will be done by merit.
    Tech4eva Femtech Acceleration Programme 2023 Eligibility

    All start-ups or projects developing innovative solutions to foster women’s health are welcome to apply to this programme. Priority will be given to those start-ups that:

    • Are tech driven.
    • All nationalities are welcome.
    • Demonstrate growth potential and traction to customers.
    • Have a product / service that is ready to be commercialized.
    • Are looking for international development and further fundraising.
    • Are in the field of Femtech: Pregnancy & post-partum – wellness – period health – fertility & infertility – menopause – oncology – mental health – family life – prevention – treatment – care – inclusive health insurance – women’s health in the workplace – value-based healthcare – brain & bone health – immune & heart diseases
    • Have a strong team.
    • Are committed to attend diligently all the programme activities (1-2 senior team members).
    • Have a female and/or male founders.
