The UBA National Essay Competition is targeted at senior secondary students in Nigeria, is organized annually, as part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative.

UBA National Essay Competition aims to promote the reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa.

The 2024 UBA Foundation National Essay Competition awards scholarships worth a sum of N16 million to winners of the contest to enable them pursue undergraduate degrees in any institution of their choice in the country.

To be considered for the UBA Foundation National Essay Competition, applicant:

  • Must be a Nigerian Senior Secondary school student
  • Must submit a passport photograph
  • Must submit a scanned copy of a means of identification (birth certificate, National ID, or passport)

The prize for the UBA National Essay Competition is an educational grant to any African University of choice, for:

  • First runner-up: ₦5million
  • Second runner-up: ₦3.5million
